The DIY Bride
We are all about saving money these days, and who doesn't want to do a little saving? Many brides want to save, especially on big ticket items. Anything you can do yourself, especially those items that can be done several months in advance, are good ideas for DIY. This includes welcome bags, favors and save-the-dates. Anything that needs to be done in the final days before the wedding is best left to the professionals. Why? Because those final days will be hectic, what with family arriving from out of town, seating charts, rehearsal and rehearsal dinners and don't forget packing for your honeymoon!
So in order to save your sanity and use your time wisely, there are several things best left to the professionals:
1) Food: You may think you can handle the desserts, so why not bake pies, cookies and cakes yourself? Who will be responsible for bringing all the desserts to your venue? A professional bakery will be able to accurately predict the amount of desserts needed for your guest count and deliver the baked goods. When it comes to the menu, one of the things that will stand out about your wedding is the food. Planning the menu and estimating how much food you will need is best left to the professionals. If you want to save money on catering costs, you can just serve lots of hors d'oeuvres and drinks instead of a formal dinner.
2) Flowers: Flowers can be costly for sure, but even something simple that you can do yourself is very time consuming, and flowers are extremely perishable. Flowers can only be arranged a short time before the wedding and then need to be refrigerated. If you cannot afford a professional florist, at least ask some talented friends to help you with floral arrangements. Ask Blush Events Austin www.blusheventsaustin.com for referrals on florists that will fit any budget.
3) Photography: Even if you know someone with a good camera who likes to take photos on the weekend, think about how important your wedding photos will be to you. A professional knows about proper lighting, how to get good candid shots and when is the best time of the day for some outdoor shots. Does your friend or family member have a backup camera in case one doesn't work? What if they are sick that day and can't attend the wedding? Your photos are something you will have to look at for many years to come. This is not an area where you want to cut corners.
4) And last but not least, Planning/Coordinating: Even though you have a wonderful helpful family and lots of friends who promise to help, do you really want to rely on them to make sure your day is stress-free and relaxed? The Planner/Coordinator's job is to make sure everything runs smoothly and that you and your guests have a great time. If you cannot afford a full planner, at least consider wedding management. Blush Events Austin offers both, and we can also provide consultation on an hourly basis, if needed .Our brides have told us over and over again how glad they were to have a wedding coordinator take the stress off them so they could enjoy their day.
So DIY as much as you like, but remember in the long run to use your precious time as effectively as possible, and enjoy your engagement and wedding day!
